University Temple United Methodist Church, Seattle

An open-minded, always searching congregation in the heart of the University District. Service at 10:30am on Sundays.

At U Temple, we seek to live into a future where domination is no longer the rule of the day. We preach progressive positive change and we work for social justice around the clock. University Temple is called into the world to mend the broken-hearted, fix the injustices of our day, and nurture and support the spiritual life and growth of all individuals, so that we may be together as the healthy Body of Christ.

We are Progressive Christians
U Temple is an open, intelligent, and always searching congregation. We all know that the Bible is not a closed book, but one that pushes us into the world for progressive positive change. We respect each other and know that as Children of God, we all hold a bit of holiness within us. At U Temple, God is not a distant subject, but one who is intimate in each and every one of our lives. As Progressive Christians, we refuse to shy away from tough questions, but instead enter into them with openness and affirmation that God is GOOD and Creation is GOOD.

We Believe in Social Justice
We understand that there is injustice in the world...but we refuse to accept it. Jesus was crucified for standing up to the power elite of the Roman Empire and we understand that we are called to follow him in his example of social justice. From the Alley to the Academy, we work tirelessly to not only help those who are in pain, but to stand up to the powers that cause them pain. Jesus taught us to stand up to the injustice of Empire, and at U Temple, we take that message to heart.

We are Open and Affirming
We at U Temple believe that all are called to God’s table and that we are all God’s children. As a Reconciling Congregation, we affirm ALL people and stand proudly with our LGBTQ family. Just as Jesus loved those who were persecuted, so too does U Temple give an almighty YES to those who have been told NO. We are all here together to make the world a better place. There is no room for hatred and discrimination within the Body of Christ. All are welcome. All are affirmed. All are loved.
